Time Management is an extremely important skill to have as a student athlete. The athlete part of your life is filled with practices, games, lifts, travel, meetings, and treatments. The student part of your life is filled with class, studying, and homework. It can be very challenging for student athletes to effectively manage their work load with such limited free time. Without effective time management, this can cause a lot of stress and anxiety for these athletes.
I've come up with a few tips for student athletes to help them manage their time effectively:
#1 Use a Planner
Writing down your schedule as well as all the tasks you have to complete each day in a planner is a great way to stay organized and on top of things. Also there is no better feeling than physically crossing off your lists!
#2 Sleep
Taking care of your body will help you in both school and in your sport. Making sure you get at least 8-10 hours each night is vital for your health.
#3 Prioritize
Organize your tasks by how urgent or important they are.
#4 Avoid Procrastinating
Don't wait until the last minute to do your assignments and get them done ahead of time.
#6 Use Downtime Wisely
Free time as a student athlete is limited, so make sure you are intentional about what you do with it. If you have an hour between class and practice, try to knock out some homework rather than going on your phone to fill the time.
#7 Schedule Classes Accordingly
Schedule your classes at times that are most convenient for you depending on your practice schedule and when you work most efficiently during the day.
